The annual West African Legislative Summit in London, United Kingdom from 4th – 8th March 2024.

About WANSL™

The African continent boasts a rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and histories, making it one of the most diverse regions in the world. However, this diversity has often been accompanied by fragmentation, which has hindered the continent's progress towards unity and development. One promising avenue for fostering unity and cooperation among African nations is the establishment of Pan-African legislative ideologies. By creating a shared framework for laws and policies, African countries can work collaboratively to address common challenges, promote socio-economic development, and empower their citizens.

Since the advent of democracy to Africa over the years, the practice of democracy- a government of the people, by the people and for the people has witnessed diverse benefits and challenges. Many African citizens have not fully gotten the benefits of democratic practice. This has given rise to the need to point out clearly that the role of legislators cannot be over emphasised in entrenching democratic practices. Recently, there has been an increase in the disconnect between citizens and government of serval African countries which has led to unlawful hijack of democratically elected governments by the military. The clamour for good governance by the citizens continues to vibrate across the shores of West and indeed the entire African countries. It is on this basis that this Shuga Humanitarian Foundation, an organisation that is championing the cause of advancing democratic principles in West African countries through legislative instruments. Consequent on this, a 3-day conference is being organised for West African parliamentarians in order for them to be better informed about their roles in ensuring that democratic values are not eroded.

The establishment of Pan-African legislative ideologies has the potential to transform the African continent into a unified force for development, progress, and prosperity. By overcoming challenges through diplomacy, collaboration, and innovation, African countries can harness their collective strengths to address shared challenges. As the African Union and regional bodies continue to promote cooperation, pursuing harmonised legal frameworks stands out as a beacon of hope, fostering a brighter future for all Africans.
